Today I walked past a newspaper stand and on the front page of the Seattle Times is a an article touting a plan to build the world’s largest solar power plant in the Eastern Washington town of Cle Elum. This April 22nd is Earth Day! Seattle has roots in the creation of this day designed to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth’s environment. In 1969 at a conference in Seattle, US Senator Gaylord Nelson announced that in the following spring their would be a grassroots demonstration designed to draw attention to the environment and protecting the planet. Earth Hour is March 28th at 8:30pm local time…wherever you may be on the planet…flip the switches and turn your lights off to fight global warming! The Global Wind Energy Council has announced that the US has the most installed wind power in the world. The US increased their capacity by 50% overtaking Germany as the leader of total wind energy production. Possibly the most notable is China’s fourth year of doubling their wind power output to rank 4th in the [...] How would you like to cut your hot water bill by 70% using the sun to heat your water. As an impressive array of thermal solar power plants have been scheduled to be built by BrightSource Energy in the Mohave desert of Southern California….the question looms…. So why doesn’t Exxon Mobile bail out the failing auto industry? After all they are the ones that rely on these gas guzzling vehicles to create record breaking profits of $45 billion. Profits that exceed the gross domestic product of all but 16 of the worlds nations. With windfall profits like that why not ask [...] |
