Today I walked past a newspaper stand and on the front page of the Seattle Times is a an article touting a plan to build the world’s largest solar power plant in the Eastern Washington town of Cle Elum. This April 22nd is Earth Day! Seattle has roots in the creation of this day designed to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth’s environment. In 1969 at a conference in Seattle, US Senator Gaylord Nelson announced that in the following spring their would be a grassroots demonstration designed to draw attention to the environment and protecting the planet. The US increased their capacity by 50% overtaking Germany as the leader of total wind energy production. As an impressive array of thermal solar power plants have been scheduled to be built by BrightSource Energy in the Mohave desert of Southern California….the question looms….
