The 2010 Green Professionals Conference being held in Portland, OR is less than a week away! The Senate has been heavily distracted as of recent with health care reform debate. Many think that the Senate will not be able to get a Climate Bill passed this year even though the House has already passed its version. One of these doubters is majority leader Harry Reid. Senator’s Barbara Boxer D-Calif and John [...] Today I walked past a newspaper stand and on the front page of the Seattle Times is a an article touting a plan to build the world’s largest solar power plant in the Eastern Washington town of Cle Elum. I was walking down the street in Seattle today and was approached by a young man asking me to donate to the League of Conservation Voters. He was full of energy and enthusiasm for the cause he was promoting. I stopped and chatted with him about what the League of Conservation was all about. The LCV’s mission is to advocate for sound environmental policies and to elect pro-environmental candidates who will adopt and implement such policies. This April 22nd is Earth Day! Seattle has roots in the creation of this day designed to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth’s environment. In 1969 at a conference in Seattle, US Senator Gaylord Nelson announced that in the following spring their would be a grassroots demonstration designed to draw attention to the environment and protecting the planet. In less than 4 days over 10,000 youth leaders will converge on Washington D.C. for the Power Shift 09 conference. This will mark the largest climate change lobbyist group to ever assemble in US history. These highly organized youth will network, educate, share strategies and lobby congress to take aggressive steps to address climate change…fostering [...] The Global Wind Energy Council has announced that the US has the most installed wind power in the world. The US increased their capacity by 50% overtaking Germany as the leader of total wind energy production. Possibly the most notable is China’s fourth year of doubling their wind power output to rank 4th in the [...] WASHINGTON — Carol Browner, the White House energy and climate director, says prompt approval of the economic recovery package is needed to stem a rising tide of job losses in the fledgling wind and solar energy industries. So why doesn’t Exxon Mobile bail out the failing auto industry? After all they are the ones that rely on these gas guzzling vehicles to create record breaking profits of $45 billion. Profits that exceed the gross domestic product of all but 16 of the worlds nations.
