A Sustainable Candidate For Seattle Mayor

To the pleasure of many Seattle neighborhood leaders and environmentalists, Michael McGinn announced he is running for Mayor of Seattle. He is the first to officially announce his candidacy and to challenge the current Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels. In his announcement McGinn noted three of the keys issues he would address as mayor being schools, transportation and technology infrastructure.

World Water Day 2009

The Plastic Bottle Boat Plastiki

Explorer and founder of Adventure Ecology, David de Rothschild is busy building a 60 ft catamaran out of recycled plastic and water bottles. The boat named Plastiki has an ambitious voyage planned, taking it 11,500 miles from San Francisco to Sydney.

The West Coasts Green Freeway

The governors of Washington, California and Idaho are taking a bold stride to begin to ween ourselves from the current gasoline infrastructure. A proposed plan along the 1,382 miles of the west coast I-5 corridor would create a “green freeway” utilizing rest stops as refueling stations for alternative-fuel vehicles.

Seattle Updates Recycling Program

The City of Seattle has announced a revamping of its recycling program starting March 30th. The goal is to make the process simpler and increase the number of individuals who recycle, reducing the amount of garbage to be processed.
